Ingredients

  • 8 slices bologna thick slices, good quality
  • 4 slices bread sturdy white or sourdough
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp hot sauce bright and spicy

Instructions

  • Arrange the bologna slices on a plate and prepare all your ingredients nearby for quick assembly.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter or oil, letting it melt and shimmer. The fat should sizzle gently when the bologna hits the pan.
  • Place the bologna slices in the hot skillet, making sure they’re not overcrowded. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on one side until they start to bubble at the edges and turn golden brown.
  • Flip the slices carefully with tongs and cook for another 3-4 minutes until crispy and evenly browned on both sides, filling the kitchen with a savory, sizzling scent.
  • While the bologna fries, lightly toast the bread slices in a toaster or in the same skillet until they’re golden and crisp on the outside but still soft inside.
  • Remove the bologna from the skillet and set aside briefly, then drizzle each slice with hot sauce while still warm, allowing it to seep into the crispy edges.
  • Assemble the sandwich by layering the hot, crispy bologna slices onto one piece of toasted bread, then top with the second slice. Add pickles or relish if desired for a tangy contrast.
  • Gently press down the sandwich to help everything set, then cut in half if you like, and serve immediately while the bologna is still crispy and flavorful.

Notes
