Equipment

  • French press coffee maker
  • Kettle or pot for heating water
  • Chopstick or small wooden spoon
  • Small plate or plunger lid

Ingredients

  • 45 grams coarse coffee grounds 5 tablespoons
  • 3 1/2 cups water 680 mL

Instructions

  • Heat water to 205°F (96°C) or let it cool slightly after boiling.
  • Place coffee grounds in the French press carafe.
  • Pour hot water over grounds, stir, and let rest for 1 minute.
  • Stir again to break crust, cover, and steep for 3 more minutes.
  • Gently press plunger down until grounds are trapped at the bottom.
  • Serve immediately in cups.
  • Transfer leftover coffee to a vacuum-insulated mug for later.
