Equipment

  • Saucepan or small pot
  • Ladle or spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup dried pumpkin pieces or small pumpkin chunks dried or fresh, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 orange citrus peel preferably from an orange or lemon, sliced thin

Instructions

  • Pour water into your saucepan and add the dried pumpkin chunks, which will release their subtle sweetness as they soften.
2 cups water, 1/2 cup dried pumpkin pieces or small pumpkin chunks
  • Drop in the cinnamon sticks and whole cloves for warm, spicy aromas, and place the citrus peels on top to add a bright citrus note once simmering begins.
2 tablespoons cinnamon sticks, 1 teaspoon whole cloves, 1 orange citrus peel
  • Set the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, listening for soft bubbling and noticing the fragrant steam rising from the surface.
  • Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and allow the potpourri to infuse the air for about 45-60 minutes, adding more water as needed to prevent it from boiling dry.
  • Stir occasionally to release more scent and ensure the ingredients stay submerged, adjusting heat to maintain a gentle simmer.
  • The mixture will develop a warm, fragrant aroma, with the ingredients softly bubbling and steam gracefully rising, filling your space with autumnal scents.

Notes

Remember to keep the water topped up during simmering to prevent burning. You can customize with additional herbs or citrus peels for variety. If the scent becomes too intense, dilute with a splash of water and extend simmering time.
