Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider preferably unfiltered for more flavor
  • 2 sticks cinnamon can be broken into smaller pieces if desired
  • 4 cloves whole cloves
  • 1 orange orange slices preferably unwaxed, sliced thinly
  • 1 teaspoon secret spice blend a pinch of star anise, cardamom, and a dash of allspice
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup optional for sweetness

Instructions

  • Pour the apple cider into a saucepan and place it over medium heat.
  • Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and secret spice blend to the cider. Stir gently to combine.
  • Slices of orange are added directly to the saucepan, their vibrant peels and flesh releasing bright citrus aroma as they soften.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, just below boiling, and allow it to simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes. This infuses the cider with spicy, citrusy aroma and warms it thoroughly.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and strain out the spices and orange slices using a fine mesh sieve. Pour the clear, fragrant cider back into the saucepan if needed.
  • Stir in honey or maple syrup to taste, adjusting the sweetness to your preference for a balanced, cozy sip.
  • Reheat gently if needed, until steaming hot with enticing spicy and citrus aromas filling the air. Serve in mugs, garnished with extra orange slices or a cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Feel free to customize the spice blend—add star anise, a splash of rum, or a few cranberries for variation. Always taste and adjust sweetness to balance the tartness of the orange slices. For a less spicy version, reduce the number of cloves and star anise.
