Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Basmati rice
  • 2 Cups water
  • 1 Tbp olive oil
  • 1 Small onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 Tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Rinse the Basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Add the cumin seeds and turmeric powder, stir for about a minute until fragrant.
  • Add the rinsed Basmati rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the spices.
  • Pour in the water and season with salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork, garnish with fresh cilantro leaves, and serve hot.

Notes

  1. You can add diced vegetables like carrots, peas, or bell peppers for extra flavor and nutrition.
  2. For a richer flavor, use vegetable or chicken broth instead of water.
