  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 6 Cups Water or Chicken Broth
  • 1 Inch piece Ginger thinly sliced
  • 2 Cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 Tbps Soy Sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Toppings of your choice
  • Sliced green onions
  • Fried shallots
  • Boiled eggs

Instructions

  • Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water.
  • In a large pot, combine the rice, water or chicken broth, ginger, and garlic.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, partially covered, for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally, until the congee reaches your desired consistency.
  • Stir in the soy sauce and salt to taste.
  • Serve hot with your choice of toppings.

Notes

  1. Feel free to customize your toppings according to your preferences or whatever ingredients you have on hand.
  2. Adjust the consistency of the congee by adding more water or broth if it becomes too thick during cooking.
