Ingredients

  • 4 cups  shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups  dry bread crumbs
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Instructions

Heat Oil:

  • Begin by heating the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to a temperature of 350°F (175°C). This ensures the perfect cooking environment for crispy shrimp.

Prepare Shrimp:

  • Working one at a time, dip each shrimp into beaten egg, letting any excess egg drip back into the bowl.

Bread Crumb Coating:

  • Press the egg-coated shrimp into bread crumbs, ensuring both sides are thoroughly coated. Place the breaded shrimp, unstacked, onto a plate.

Frying:

  • Carefully lower the breaded shrimp into the preheated oil in batches. Fry them until they achieve a delightful crispiness and turn golden brown, usually within 4 to 5 minutes.

Drain Excess Oil

  • Once fried to perfection, transfer the crispy shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate. This helps drain any excess oil, ensuring a lighter and crunchier texture.

Notes

  • Make sure the shrimp are completely dry before applying the breading.
  • Depending on the size of your cooking vessel, fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Prior to adding the subsequent batch of oil, ensure that it is heated to 350 F.
  • Fried dishes require the appropriate temperature. Make sure the oil is hot enough to crisp the breading fast and not fall apart.
  • If you have a thermometer, check the oil at 350 F. Instead of a thermometer, put a wooden stick in the oil. Oil should bubble around the stick.
