Making Smash Burgers at home in the style of a restaurant is simple. These are among the best burgers to make, and they cook quickly. The double patty with melted cheese in the middle is delicious, and the sauce is definitely worth trying!
4slices medium cheddar cheese, we love thick-sliced
garlic powder, added to taste
Burger Sauce:
1/3Cupmayonnaise
1tspyellow mustard
Toppings:
2Cups iceberg lettuce, shredded
1/2red onion, sliced into thin rings
2Dill Pickles, cut into 12 slices
Instructions
Divide the ground beef into 8 portions, approximately 3 oz each. Gently roll each portion into a loose ball shape.
Cover the burger balls and refrigerate while you get the other ingredients ready. Remember, the meat should be cold when it hits the grill.
Remove wilted leaves from the lettuce to keep it crunchy. Finely shred the lettuce. Slice tomatoes, onions, and pickles.
Butter the buns and toast them over medium heat until they are golden on the buttered side. Increase the griddle to medium/high heat. Place 2-4 burger balls onto the hot griddle.
Quickly place parchment paper over the meat and smash it down firmly into a thin patty. Peel back and discard the parchment paper. Season the patties with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of burger sauce on each patty. Cook the patties for 2 minutes on the first side or until seared and juices start to come to the surface.
Use a spatula facing down at a 45˚ angle to scrape under the burger and flip. Cook for an additional 1 minute. Top half of the patties with sliced cheese and cover with the second patty.
Repeat the process with the remaining burgers. Transfer the finished burgers to a platter as they finish cooking.
Notes
Place sauce on bottom of bun. Top with 3 pickle slices, shredded lettuce, 2 tomato slices and thin sliced onion. Add double patty and top with bun.
