  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 small red onion finely diced
  • 1 small tomato seeded and diced
  • 1-2 jalapeño peppers seeded and finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 1-2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • Juice of 1-2 limes adjust to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Avocados:Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits.Scoop the avocado flesh into a large bowl.
  • Mash the Avocados:Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocados to your desired consistency. Some people like their guacamole chunky, while others prefer it smooth.
  • Add the Vegetables:Add the diced onion, tomato, and jalapeño to the mashed avocado.
  • Add Garlic and Cilantro:Stir in the minced garlic and chopped cilantro.
  • Add Lime Juice and Seasonings:Squeeze the juice of one lime into the mixture and stir well. Taste the guacamole, and add more lime juice as needed.Season with salt to taste. If desired, add a pinch of ground black pepper.
  • Adjust and Serve:Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasoning if needed.Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or use it as a topping for tacos, burritos, or other dishes.

Notes

For a creamier guacamole, add a spoonful of sour cream or Greek yogurt.
If you don't have jalapeño, you can use other types of chili peppers for a different heat level.
To keep guacamole from browning, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap directly against the surface of the guacamole, and refrigerate. You can also use a layer of lime juice on top before covering to reduce oxidation.
