Chili’s Goes Viral After Comparing Its $10.99 Meal to Costly Fast Food

Chili’s is drawing attention online after joining a conversation about rising fast-food prices with a witty social media response that quickly went viral.

The exchange began when X user @YellowFlashGuy shared a photo of what appeared to be a Burger King menu showing a Bacon King meal ncluding fries and a drink priced at $18.19 at one location. The image also showed the sandwich by itself listed for $12.99.

Questioning the value of the meal, the user wrote that for a similar price they could eat at a sit-down restaurant and likely get better food.

Chili’s didn’t miss the opportunity to respond.

“This is what we’ve been saying!!!!” the restaurant chain posted on X. “Why do y’all let fast food play you like this? Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich 3 for Me with fries, BOTTOMLESS chips and salsa and UNLIMITED drink for $10.99, only at Chili’s.”

The post quickly gained traction across the platform, surpassing 5 million views while generating thousands of reactions from users.

Many commenters praised the restaurant’s value-focused menu. One user said they planned to visit Chili’s after work, prompting the chain to reply that it couldn’t wait to welcome them. Another customer shared a positive review of the Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich, calling the meal a great value with excellent service, while Chili’s responded by saying that’s exactly what the brand aims to deliver.

Not every response was favorable, however. One commenter criticized the chain after receiving a steak that was cooked far below the requested temperature. Chili’s apologized publicly and invited the customer to provide more details about the experience. Other users defended the restaurant, suggesting the issue was likely an isolated mistake rather than a reflection of the overall brand.

The Bacon King featured in the original social media post is one of Burger King’s signature burgers, made with two quarter-pound beef patties, bacon, American cheese, ketchup, and mayonnaise on a toasted sesame seed bun.

Because most Burger King restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees, menu prices can vary depending on the location. The company also notes that participation in promotions differs by restaurant. Burger King had not publicly responded to the viral exchange at the time of reporting.

According to Chili’s parent company, Brinker International, the restaurant brand has spent the past several years playfully comparing its value offerings with those of major fast-food chains. Earlier this year, Chili’s expanded that strategy with the launch of its Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich, which became part of the chain’s 3 for Me value menu starting at $10.99.

When introducing the sandwich in April, Chili’s said consumers had been disappointed by the value offered by many fast-food restaurants despite growing prices.

Recent industry data suggests affordability remains a major concern for diners. A FinanceBuzz study found that average prices at major fast-food chains increased by approximately 60% between 2014 and 2024. Meanwhile, restaurant technology company Popmenu reported that 68% of U.S. consumers are reducing restaurant spending this year while placing greater importance on affordability and convenience.

The value-focused approach appears to be benefiting Chili’s. In April, Brinker International reported that the restaurant chain recorded its 20th consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth, with comparable sales increasing 4%, continuing a streak of steady performance.
