Overview: How To Make Penny’s Whiskey Cake?

Overview How To Make Penny’s Whiskey Cake

First off, gather your ingredients. You’ll need a small bottle of whiskey, a yellow cake mix, instant vanilla pudding, chopped walnuts, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Don’t worry, it’s all easy to find at the store!

Now, let’s get baking. Start by preheating your oven and greasing a bundt or angel food pan with some butter. Sprinkle a cup of chopped walnuts onto the bottom of the pan for some extra crunch and flavor.

Next, it’s time to whip up the cake batter. In a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, instant pudding, water, vegetable oil, eggs, and a half cup of whiskey. Use a mixer to blend everything together until it’s nice and smooth, which should take about two minutes.

Once your batter is ready, pour it over the walnuts in the pan and pop it in the oven. Bake until the cake is set, which should take about an hour. Once it’s done, let it cool before removing it from the pan.

While the cake cools, you can make the whiskey sauce. Melt some butter in a saucepan, then add water and sugar. Let it come to a boil and cook for about five minutes. After that, stir in some more whiskey and let it cool for a bit.

Once both the cake and the sauce have cooled slightly, it’s time to bring them together. Use a fork to poke some holes in the top of the cake, then pour the sauce over it. Let everything cool a bit more before serving, and if you’d like, add a dollop of whipped cream on the side for some extra sweetness. Enjoy your boozy treat!

Some Tips to Keep in Mind!

  1. Quality Whiskey: The choice of whiskey can significantly impact the flavor of your cake. Opt for a good quality whiskey like Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, or Crown Royal to enhance the taste.
  2. Soaking Time: For an extra kick of whiskey flavor, consider soaking the chopped walnuts in a small amount of whiskey before adding them to the pan. This will infuse the nuts with a rich, boozy taste that will complement the cake beautifully.
  3. Mixing Technique: When mixing the cake batter, aim for a smooth and creamy consistency. Make sure to beat the ingredients together until they are well combined, but be careful not to overmix as this can lead to a dense cake texture.
  4. Proper Baking: To ensure your cake bakes evenly, preheat your oven and place the cake pan in the center of the oven rack. Keep an eye on the cake towards the end of the baking time to prevent it from overcooking. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs when the cake is done.
  5. Sauce Perfection: When making the sauce, be sure to cook it over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture has thickened slightly. This will create a luscious caramel-like sauce that adds indulgent sweetness to the cake.
  6. Presentation: Once the cake has cooled slightly and the sauce has been poured over, consider garnishing with a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or a drizzle of whiskey-infused caramel sauce for an extra special touch.
