Time for The Tips!
- Select a robust wild rice variety, such as brown basmati, or a transformed kind to prevent the rice from getting overly mushy. Steamed before hulling, converted rice becomes harder and more able to retain its shape during lengthy cooking periods.
- Toasting the rice before putting it in the slow cooker will give it a richer taste. In a skillet set over medium-high heat, melt the butter or heat the oil. After around 4 or 5 minutes of sautéing, the rice should be gently fragrant and golden.
- Be sure to consult your slow cooker’s instructions to find out whether pre-seasoning the pot with nonstick cooking spray is required.

I followed the recipe, but the rice came out a bit too firm for my taste. Any tips on how to get it a bit softer?
